The Virtual Health Library is an important resource for Spanish- and Portuguese-language scientific literature and health terminology. In the Scientific Literature section there are fourteen databases, including the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILAC) database and the Adolescent Health (ADOLEC) database. The site is managed by the Latin American and Caribbean Center of Health Science Information. (BIREME) (www.bireme.br/bvs/I/imiss.htm).

National Library of Medicine (NLM) Gateway

The NLM Gateway provides users with "one-stop shopping" for many of NLM's information resources. It allows searching in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings, and HSRProj. Book chapters, audiovisual materials and meeting abstracts are cataloged in addition to journal articles. The Gateway is a work-in-progress, with many updates and improvements planned for the future.

POPLINE

POPLINE is the first place to search for literature the field of population, family planning, and related health issues. The database includes more than 280,000 records representing published and unpublished literature. POPLINE is updated twice each month; approximately 10,000 records are added annually. POPLINE is maintained by the Johns Hopkins Population Information Program. POPLINE will continue to distribute POPLINE on CD-ROM for those in developing countries with limited Internet access.
