Summer Certificate Course in International Population and Reproductive

This intensive, two-week session is offered by the University of Michigan
to help prepare new professionals, graduate students,
and practitioners
for work
in the field
of international population, family planning, and reproductive health.
The course introduces participants to the context, tools, and programming
strategies that form the foundation of work in global population
and reproductive health.The course
focuses on three main skill areas: needs assessment, strategic planning,
and monitoring and evaluation. Participants will examine health disparities
and donor priorities, as well as analyze health program data, case studies,
and programming practices currently employed in resource-poor countries.

Communicating with Policymakers about Population and Health

This five-week workshop is part of The East-West Center's 37th annual Summer
Seminar on Population. The objective is to increase the
use of research findings and professional knowledge and experience to improve
population and health
policies and programs. In plenary and small group sessions, participants
will explore the policy process and successful strategies for policy change;
design a strategy to communicate their own research findings to policymakers;
use electronic and print media to obtain research results and other information
that support policy implications drawn from their own research; and develop
skills for communicating with policymakers, both directly and through the
media.

From Analysis to Action: Advocating for Effective HIV Responses

This five-week workshop is part of The East-West Center's 37th annual Summer
Seminar on Population. Family Health
International, the POLICY Project, and the East-West Center have launched
the A2 project with support from USAID.
A2, which stands for the Analysis and Advocacy Project, seeks to synergistically
link careful analysis of local data on HIV/AIDS with energetic advocacy
to communities and national and international decision-makers. This workshop
introduces the A2 process and discusses the implications for the rest of
the region of analyses conducted in Bangladesh, China, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The workshop will focus on understanding Asian epidemics, constructing
policy scenarios and analyses, identifying the key decision-makers, building
advocacy networks, and using these networks effectively to implement an
advocacy strategy to improve national responses. Workshop participants
will work with the latest tools for policy analysis in Asia—including
the Asian Epidemic Model and the Goals model—to analyze their local situations
and prepare advocacy action plans and materials for their own countries.

Cervical Cancer Screening and Management of Preneoplastic and Early Neoplastic
Conditions of the Cervix
The School for Cervical Cancer Prevention at Chittaranjan National Cancer
Institute is part of a network of training facilities established by International
Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a part of the World Health Organization.
This two-week course is offered every month and covers administration of
early detection tests for cervical cancer, diagnostic colposcopy, cervical
pathology, and treatment of cervical cancer precursors. Both theoretical
and practical topics are addressed, including demonstration of colposcopic
findings (50 cases), supervised hands-on colposcopy (20 cases), demonstration
of cryotherapy (5 cases), demonstration of LEEP/NETZ (5 cases), histopathology
and colposcopy correlation sessions, and journal discussion sessions.
